Free Entries--More

Original sender: Garril----Every one making good suggestions here. two-classers sound good to me.

Children being required to work also good: the young ones get a great deal
of extra support, attention, and help when working. (Maybe more than when
in ring?)

Two thoughts enter my head:
will people NOT work if they don't get freebies? Judges hospitality might
rate more if judges are chauffeured and TLC'd by the person. (Some judges
are no joy.) I think it ought not be a rewarded post, but it sure is close
to some of the other two-classers.

Raffle has a good czar and is popular perk. Perhaps we ought to rely more
on raffle for iffy freebie posts?

Free Entries

At the last meeting, I said I'd propose a more concrete accounting of what
trial committee members get what freebies, and scale down the freebies that
the lesser positions receive. Here's my proposal. Since we added the
granularity of whole-weekend vs. one-day certs, I found I needed to take
this one step further and also have an even smaller reward for the even
smaller positions. I picked a "2-class" cert rather than a dollar value
because I always hate having to deal with dollar amounts that have nothing
to do with the trial they're entering - subtracting and stuff, I have a
hard time with it... anyway I like the idea that the recipient can get more
or less out of the cert if they use it a different trials; makes the cert
potentially be a jackpot, which is VERY motivating as we all know. I was
trying to argue the same principle earlier, for the weekend and one-day
certs, and my explanation sounds just as lame now, doesn't it? sigh

so help me out if I'm missing anyone.

------------------------------------
whole weekend certs for anyone whose job is (a) big or (b) detracts from
the person's ability to concentrate on their walkthroughs and runs.

one-day certs for the smaller trial committee jobs that require a few hours
both before and during the trial

2-classes certs for even smaller jobs that are primarily day-of jobs..

[these all presently get nothing except lawn parking passes:]

Original sender: Jennifer J----It all sounds pretty fair to me. You might want to poll some people who have done the jobs recently to see what they think. I was personally surprised to get a full weekend for doing Ribbons last time and felt a little guilty using it because I wasn't sure I had done that much work. I think 1 day for ribbons is more appropriate.

Original sender: Ellen F----I'm with Jenn on the ribbons. Takes virtually no time at the trial, and now that we're doing generic labels, too, it takes maybe, what, an hour ahead of time ordering & stocking ribbons & printing labels? Maybe 2 hours? Might take a wee bit longer if you have to order up some special awards & negotiate with the chairs, but I think even a 1-day cert seems like a lot. I think 2-class would be plenty. If I were doing them, even that would feel a little like highway robbery.

Grounds & premium both spend a lot more time in advance than the ribbons person. I've never done the judges hospitality so I don't know how much time is used in advance and/or at the trial. (And don't say that these all don't need anything just because YOU usually do them all! ;-) ) They shd get at least 2-class.

Not convinced on measure/check-in person: unlike the other 2-class passes you list (which sound OK), this requires dedicated attention for the better part of an hour or two first thing in the morning just when you want to be setting up and walking the first classes and pottying your dogs and settling in (whereas potty, trash, etc. are random times when it's convenient for you--and only a few minutes at a shot). So I'm thinking a 1-day would be better.

Original sender: Jackie D------Judges hospitality varies. I don't think day-of takes up much time at all. If we're including picking up at the airport, taking back...that only depends. I spent a fair amount of time ferrying Karen this past weekend but it was fine; I didn't mind it at all. We had a great time talking. Anyway, I'm thinking that is a job that really doesn't need compensation.
